Feature films

With proven suitability for the production of feature films, television and commercials, the airfield offers a vast and flexible range of outdoor spaces. These include a large main runway, along with 2 cross-runways and areas of green space. The site is incredibly flexible, allowing clients to use the location to create their own sets or alternatively use the existing features.

Bovingdon Airfield is located within a convenient distance from London, Pinewood studio and Leavesdon studio. Fake trees have been put in place for films. These can be made to look very realistic by using machines to create holes in the ground so they can be planted to look like real trees. An example of these being used is for the Star Wars film Rogue 1, they used palm trees to set the scene.

Tank battle scenes have been created and filmed on the airfield for films for example Fury. Machinery was used to create the realistic setting of explosions and battle grounds by digging pits, mounds and ploughing areas of the airfield.

Aircraft scenes: With the airfield having 3 runways through it it is an easy and ideal location to use for these type of scenes. This was used for part of Fast and Furious 6 filming.

Aerial work for example aerial work platforms and drones for filming has also been used here. Being able to use aerial equipment means that filming from a height or above the action can be achieved.
